Industrial 4.0 Informatics involves programming skills based on sound knowledge of engineering sciences and methodological expertise. Students will learn how to develop clear IT structures, how to write programs using modern state-of-the-art software technology and how to integrate software and hardware into robust complete systems. Creativity, analytical skills and communication skills are essential. The programme opens up excellent career options in various areas, for example in the automotive industry, in automation, production control, logistics, communications and internet technology, just to name a few. General Information:

Media Informatics represents the interface between media, mankind and machine. It explores solutions for the digital living and working environment, for example speech-dialogue systems, chat-bots, mobile apps for smartphones, tablets or CVs, as well as web design, IT networks or data bases.  A Bachelor‘s Degree in Media Informatics opens up a variety of interesting jobs in the media, telecommunications or software industry (publishing houses, radio and TV stations, multimedia agencies, etc.), just to name a few.

Areas of application

Typical fields of operation for graduates of Media Informatics include the development of e-commerce and web applications, interactive computer graphics, innovative user interfaces, mobile applications, computer-based training software and IT security. These core areas are complemented by a variety of subjects regarding digital media, development of user-friendly interactive software systems, web engineering or development of mobile applications.

General Information:

In contrast to common design programmes, the programme Media Production and Media Technology offers a combination of technology and design. You will learn how to convey your message, both in terms of the right communication channels as well as in terms of its technical implementation. Right from the start of studies, you will produce, for example, image videos, short films and radio plays, write print articles or launch a guerrilla campaign for the Internet. Starting in the third semester, you can choose between various electives, for example in the field of music production or lighting technology. The opportunities are manifold as the world of media is subject to constant change.

General Information:

This degree programme provides comprehensive training in natural and engineering sciences, including surveying and geodesy, computer science, geographic information systems, as well as urban and regional planning.

Graduates will be able to deal with coordinate and reference systems, data models, data bases and geoinformation systems and acquire the know-how of modelling geospatial data and processes – in short, they will be specialists in the digital representation of the real world.

There is an urgent need for teachers in vocational schools – about 60,000 until 2030. This constitutes best career opportunities for engineering educators. After the bachelor's degree in engineering education, you can complete your teacher training by taking a master's degree at the TUM School of Education. The teacher training enables you to take up a teaching position at a vocational school.

Due to the rapidly increasing technical development, engineering educators are also in great demand in industry, as they are not only able to understand complex products but also to explain them. Their additional qualification in vocational pedagogy can also be used for training and further education.

After your Bachelor’s degree, you may…

  • take up an engineering job in industry in the area of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology or Metal Technology
  • become active in the field of vocational education and training, company education and personnel management, or user support or training
  • study towards a master in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology or Metal Technology

The aim of this master's degree course is to enable students to act independently and responsibly and to apply scientific findings and methods in the field of information technology with a focus on either Artificial Intelligence and Big Data ("Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence") or Automation Systems in Industrial Applications ("Automation and Smart Factory").

Entry Requirements:

The consecutive Master's programme is aimed at graduates with a first relevant engineering or scientific degree. Relevant fields of study are, for example, electrical engineering and information technology, mechatronics & digital automation, industrial 4.0 informatics or media informatics or comparable computer science programmes with a technical orientation. For other courses of study, the examination board will decide on the relevance.

General Information:

This Master Programme „Applied Research in Engineering Sciences“ (M-APR) opens up a variety of opportunities in applied research and development. It is closely tied to an individual research project and is complemented by a number of advanced seminars and lectures related to that particular project.  For the entire duration of the programme, students will be supervised by an appointed professor. The programme places great emphasis on the graduates‘ ability to carry out independent, self-directed  application-oriented research projects. Students will become familiar with the technical aspects and organisational processes underlying complex cross-company projects (for example national or European research projects).

Entry Requirements:

Admission to the Master's programme "Applied Research in Engineering Sciences" generally requires a relevant degree from a university of applied sciences or another equivalent degree in the fields of electrical engineering, information technology, mechatronics or related disciplines with at least 210 credit points and an overall examination result of at least 2.5 or a relative grade which demonstrates that the applicant is among the top 35% of the graduates of his or her degree course.

In order to demonstrate his or her aptitude, the applicant has to undergo an aptitude assessment procedure to prove his or her ability to approach scientific questions and to organize and carry out scientific projects.

Mechanical Engineering is not only concerned with development, design and optimization. It also means getting others excited about your ideas. That’s why the programme combines engineering and business skills. Skills that enable you to take on a leadership role in a technology-oriented company.  A compulsory work placement and practical project work in the University’s modern state-of-the-art laboratories ensure that theoretical knowledge can be put into practice right from the start. It also allows sufficient flexibility for further specialisation in areas of individual interest, such as Automotive Engineering, Laser Technology, Production Engineering or Polymer Technology.

Plastics are widely used in the manufacture of products that we use in our daily lives. Engineers who understand how plastics materials can be designed, tested and manufactured are in great demand. This programme is designed to prepare graduates for a professional career in the plastics industry. The curriculum provides a sound basis in mathematics, physics, chemistry and process engineering, including in-depth study of plastics materials, properties, physics, engineering sciences, product design, plastics processing and computer-aided engineering. General Information:

This degree programme is about the sustainable use of energy and the utilization of energy sources that are replenished as they are used, such as wind, water, the sun and sustainably grown crops. This type of energy is almost inexhaustible and far more efficient than fossil fuels, guaranteeing climate protection and the preservation of natural resources.
