Grants and Scholarships
For an internship or study abroad in Europe, apply for Erasmus+ funding, which - apart from a manageable bureaucratic effort - can be awarded quickly and easily.
For projects outside Europe (internships, studies, technical and language courses, excursions, ect. ) you can apply for funding from OTH International or PROMOS.
For participation in congresses or trade fairs, apply for federal funds from the HAW International program, offered by the DAAD.
Please also check the DAAD scholarship database where special scholarships for certain countries, fields of study and study levels (Bachelor, Master or Doctorate) are available.
Support programmes and scholarships arranged by OTH Amberg-Weiden
The European Commission's Erasmus+ programme was introduced to promote international academic mobility within Europe. It is available for students of all disciplines and all types of higher education institutions who have completed at least one academic year (60 ECTS). The programme includes studies and internships/placements. You may even consider doing a so-called graduation internship, i.e. you are eligible to receive Erasmus funding for up to twelve months after your graduation.
Recognition of outcomes:
The Erasmus+ programme provides for the recognition of your learning outcomes acquired at the host institution. However, this does not include learning outcomes in which you failed at your home institution. Prior to your stay abroad please make sure that your studies or internships are recognized. The modules that you want to take during your studies should be entered in a Learning Agreement. Notify your supervisor of any changes during your stay and make sure that the recognition of credits is not affected.
Submit your transcript or internship certificate to the International Office after your stay to have your achievements recognized.
Possible length of stay:
- 3 - 12 months (study abroad)
- 2 - 12 months (internship abroad)
Monthly remuneration:
- From 330 euros (studies) and 435 euros (internship), staggered according to country groups
- Please note: Erasmus+ can be combined with BAföG (up to 300 euros), Deutschlandstipendium and scholarships from the Bavarian University Centres
- Additional funding for students with special needs
If you wish to benefit from Erasmus+, please start your preparations at least six months ahead of your planned stay abroad.
Applications should be made to the International Office. Please submit the following documents:
- Erasmus+ application form
- Learning Agreement / Traineeship Agreement
- Internship Contract
- Certificate of enrolment
- Transcript of Records (for studies)
- Language certificate, if applicable

- For internships, there is no deadline
Within the framework of the PROMOS program to increase the mobility of students at German higher education institutions - funded by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) - the International Office awards scholarships for internships, specialist courses and summer schools, language courses, study and competition trips, and study visits to non-European countries.
Depending on the funded activity, the scholarship holders will receive partial scholarships for subsistence, travel costs, tuition and course fees as well as a flat-rate residence allowance.
Applications are open to OTH Amberg-Weiden students of all disciplines who have completed at least 2 semesters at the OTH-AW.
Application deadline for projects in the summer semester: 31 December each year (announcement of results: 31. January at the latest).
Application deadline for projects in the winter semester: 31 May each year (announcement of results: 15 June at the latest)
Please submit the completed application form with the following application documents to the International Office
- Your letter of motivation, description of your project (maximum 1-2 pages)
- Internship contract or letter of invitation from the university/language school (if these are not yet available, we reserve the right to withhold payment of the funds until the above-mentioned documents have been presented)
- Tabular curriculum vitae
- Proof of knowledge of the language in which the internship/summer school is conducted
- Latest transcript of records
- Certificate of enrolment
- Copy of the identity card
- BAföG notice or notice of refusal (if applicable)
Applicants will be selected according to the following criteria:
- Study achievements
- Purpose of the stay abroad
- Language skills
- Motivation
- Social commitment
- Recommendation of the faculty
PROMOS - Scholarship holders can look forward to additional support which the Institut Ranke-Heinemann, in cooperation with the DAAD, awards exclusively to them: the Down Under Grant. This reduces the tuition fees for a semester abroad in Australia and New Zealand by 10% - i.e. between 700 and 1200 Australian or New Zealand dollars, depending on the study programme. Within the framework of the "OTH International" program, the OTH Amberg-Weiden awards scholarships of the Free State of Bavaria for German students who are studying or doing an internship abroad outside the Erasmus area (EU) as well as for foreign students regularly enrolled in a German higher education institution.
Applicants should have completed at least 2 semesters at OTH Amberg-Weiden.
The funds are limited.

Funding programmes and scholarships with external application procedure
The Free State of Bavaria also provides support for stays abroad (studies, internships and writing a scientific paper) in certain countries or groups of countries. Support from the Bavarian university centres is available to students from state and church universities in Bavaria who have completed at least the first stage of their studies (semesters 1 and 2).

| BayFrance/BFHZ | France, students from Bavarian universities who are planning a study visit or research placement in France can apply for a mobility grant. The grant amounts to a one-off sum of € 500 plus a location-dependent travel allowance (place of study in the home country/place of study in the partner country) up to a maximum of € 450. Applications must be submitted by the respective application deadline (15 April for the following winter semester and 15 November for the following summer semester of each year). The Chinese Ministry of Education awards four scholarships to students of the OTH Amberg-Weiden for a 6 to 10-month exchange programme at the renowned Jiangsu University. Selected scholarship holders receive 2500 RMB (around 330 euros) per month and are exempt from tuition fees. A travel allowance of 500 euros can also be applied for. Application deadlines: 15 November for the summer semester, 15 May for the winter semester. Applications are handled by the International Office. IRH Study Grant The guaranteed study grant is awarded as a subsidy independent of performance and reduces the costs of studying abroad. It is not credited towards the BAföG (Federal Training Assistance Act) for studies abroad and thus closes a gap in the financing of studies. Savings of 400 - 2500 AUD/NZD per semester.
IRH Full Scholarship
Support for gifted students - assumption of the tuition fees for a semester. Savings 6,000 - 20,000 AUD/NZD.
IRH Travel Cost Grant
Raffle among all scholarship holders. Savings of 1000 euros.

German National Academic Foundation: MacCloy Programme
The MacCloy scholarship has enabled students at the Harvard Kennedy School to obtain a Master's degree since 1993. Scholarship holders receive a monthly full scholarship of US$ 1,900.00, a one-off entry fee of US$ 500.00, a travel allowance of US$ 1,000.00 and full payment of tuition fees (approx. US$ 56,000.00 per year). Applications are open to all disciplines and are aimed at Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral students. The application deadline is 1 November of each year. German National Academic Foundation: ERP Scholarship Programme
The ERP scholarship programme enables highly qualified graduates to study in the United States. It finances a one to two-year study or research stay at top US universities. Scholarship holders receive a monthly full scholarship of US$ 1,900.00, a one-off start-up fee of US$ 500.00, a flat-rate travel allowance of US$ 1,000.00 and a grant towards tuition fees of US$ 25,000.00 per year.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for research internships worldwide as part of the RISE Worldwide Scholarship Program (Research Internships in Science and Engineering).
The program is available to undergraduate students from German universities and universities of applied sciences in the fields of engineering and science, as well as medicine, psychology, and computer science.
Graduate students are not eligible to apply.
The grantees will receive a monthly full scholarship and a travel allowance (depending on the destination) as well as health, accident and liability insurance.
Application deadline: 15 December 2021
Internship duration: 10 – 12 weeks, earliest start: 1 June 2022

Students at Risk - Hilde Domin-Programme
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers the scholarship programme "Hilde Domin Programme" with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA). The programme aims to support students and doctoral candidates at risk worldwide, who are formally or de facto denied the right to education in their country of origin, to take up or continue their studies in Germany in order to obtain a degree or doctorate at a German higher education institution.
The students and doctoral candidates nominated and selected within the framework of the programme are enrolled in degree programmes of their personal choice and individual qualifications and receive a scholarship to cover the necessary costs of the study or research stay.
The long-term goal of the scholarship programme is to enable students and doctoral candidates to study at a university or to spend a research period in a safe environment.
in a safe environment, so that they can make an important contribution to political, economic and social development in their countries of origin (or in Germany or third countries) after completing their studies or research project. All scholarship programme sponsors receive further interdisciplinary training in an accompanying programme in the social sciences in order to increase their prospects for the free development of their personality and their contribution to society.
Students and doctoral candidates worldwide* who are demonstrably at risk of being formally or de facto denied the right to education in their country of origin on the basis of their ethnic, sexual, gender or religious identity or their political or civic engagement. According to the DAAD definition, political, civic and similar engagement includes either membership in groups or individual actions that are based on liberal democratic principles and strive to contribute to positive social change.
*Excluded are the following countries: EU/EEA/EFTA countries as well as Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the United Kingdom.
Potential candidates cannot apply for the scholarship programme on their own, but are nominated. Students as well as doctoral candidates from all disciplines with the exception of human medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine may be nominated,
• who can prove or credibly demonstrate to the nominating institution a threat to their personal well-being or safety (e.g. physical violence, arrest, denial of civil and educational rights, etc.)
• who are in possession of educational certificates that allow access to a higher education institution and guarantee the completion of an intended course of study or research project according to the anabin database
• who, at the time of the application deadline, are staying abroad or, in principle, have not stayed in Germany for longer than 15 months.
Important notice:
Nominations for the disciplines Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Design, Visual Communication, Music, Film and Architecture require university admission by the application deadline.
The duration of the funding is usually for a
• Bachelor's degree: up to 48 months (12 months Studienkolleg, up to 36 months Bachelor's degree)
• Master's degree: up to 24 months
• Doctoral degree: up to 48 months
Important notice:
Please note that funding for a double degree (i.e. a second Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral degree) is not provided.
The scholarship benefits include
• a monthly scholarship instalment of 861 EUR for Bachelor and Master students or 1,200 EUR for doctoral students
• health, nursing care, accident and personal liability insurance
• a subsidy for travel expenses, based on the country of origin or current country of residence
• Participation in an upstream German language course (two, four or six months), depending on the language skills acquired to date and the language skills required for the intended study or doctoral project.

Potential candidates cannot apply for the Hilde Domin Programme on their own, but are nominated by the management (presidiums/rectorates) of an institution or organisation which is a legal entity based in Germany and which carries out an activity in the field of science, research and teaching and/or the protection of human rights, the promotion of democracy, the rule of law or the promotion of peace.
All nominations are formally made by the respective nominating institutions and organisations.
The further steps are coordinated by the DAAD.
Candidates are eligible to apply,
• who are of age at the time of nomination (usually at least 18 years old)
• who, with a Bachelor's degree as their study objective, have a higher education entrance qualification by the closing date for applications
• who have a recognised Bachelor's degree (or comparable) by the start of their scholarship with the aim of studying for a Master's degree
• who have a recognised Master's degree (or comparable) by the start of their scholarship with the aim of studying for a doctorate
• whose last enrolment at a foreign higher education institution or higher education entrance qualification for a Bachelor's degree programme, or whose last higher education degree for a Master's degree programme or doctorate at the time of application was generally no more than two years ago
• who are demonstrably at risk of being formally or de facto denied the right to education in their country of origin due to their ethnic, sexual, gender or religious identity or their political or civic commitment.
Nominations of suitable candidates by nominating institutions and organisations can be submitted online at any time.
Access to the DAAD portal is open to formally eligible candidates during the application period.
The following periods and deadlines apply for nominations and applications:

Applicants who already have sufficient German language skills and do not have to take part in a preceding language course can be funded one semester earlier if necessary.
If no application is received within the application period, the respective person would have to be nominated again at the next deadline.
Applications submitted through other channels or via other offices cannot be considered. Incomplete applications cannot be considered either. Applicants are responsible for the completeness of their applications.
Important notice:
Please note that applying for a visa and preparing for departure is the responsibility of the scholarship holder. The DAAD as the scholarship provider will provide a basis for this through the funding documents. The arrangement of appointments at the foreign representations, acceleration of procedures, booking of flights and provision of logistical services as well as security services are fundamentally outside the DAAD's mandate and sphere of influence. A systematic special treatment of scholarship holders of the Hilde Domin Programme can therefore not be guaranteed.
