Current information

Lending via Click & Collect allowed from 21 January 21 onwards!

According to the report of the Bavarian State Chancellery from the cabinet meeting of 20.01.21, libraries are allowed to offer lending via Click & Collect.

How does the lending function work?

1. Literature search in the OPAC. Instructions for Amberg and Weiden can be found here!
2. Order the desired books by mail. Enter your name and user number as well as the desired books (title and shelfmark). Specify your desired collection date between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
3. You will receive a notification by e-mail when the books are ready for collection.
4. You will pick up the books that are ready for you. Corona registration via smartphone is still required. You will also be required to wear an FFP2 mask and comply with clearance and hygiene rules.
5. Special regulations in Amberg: Students with clearance can enter the library in Amberg with your smart card, students without clearance and external users ring the bell at the side entrance. (In Weiden, all students can enter the library through the normal entrance door.)

What is not allowed?

1. The shelf area cannot be entered.
2. It is not possible to issue new user cards.
3. Longer stays at the library are not allowed.

Are branch and interlibrary loan orders possible?

Orders between Amberg and Weiden are possible again. However, it takes a few days for the books to arrive at the pick-up location, as there is only a weekly service between Amberg and Weiden.
Interlibrary loan orders are still possible. To pick up your books, please make an appointment by mail.

Can I return books?

You can return the books via the return container.
Alternatively, books can be placed in a box for returns in the counter area.
A return will not be posted until one day later.

Will I be reminded if I go over the loan deadlines?

You will not receive any reminders until the end of the lockdown. You can extend loan periods on your own in the OPAC. Students can extend up to five times, and external users can extend up to four times. Pre-booked books must be returned on time.

In addition, we have once again expanded our extensive online offerings. Here you will find an overview of our e-books and databases, which students can use regardless of location.

More detailed information about e-books and connection via VPN can be found in our e-book info sheet.

We are still here for you by e-mail and phone!

UTB teaching and study literature

In the current situation, e-books are becoming increasingly important.

The library has therefore re-licensed the e-books from UTB. UTB provides books from various shareholder publishers in a wide range of topics. From agricultural science to technology and economy, everything is included.

External access has to be done here via the VPN Forticlient. Instructions for installation and configuration can be found on the website of the computer centre. Unfortunately it is not possible to use the VPN web portal.

The locker rental service in Amberg starts!

From Monday, 20.01.2020 you can rent a locker in the Amberg Library.

How? Just get a key at the counter and have it booked there. With the key you open your locker and insert the yellow chip before closing. The key can also be returned at the counter.

For how long? 4 weeks with two extensions (like books)
A reminder fee is due if the loan period is exceeded.

What happens if keys are lost?
Unfortunately, it gets really expensive, because you have to pay at least 50 €. We will only know the current prices in February. So it is better to watch out for them.

Please do not keep any perishable food in it! We cannot accept any liability.

Mass download of e-books at Springer

According to the publisher Springer, there was an unusually high download rate of e-books, particularly on 10 and 11 March, which far exceeded the usual level.

The culprit has been identified and will face consequences.

We expressly draw attention to this fact:

  • The generous use of Springer e-books (download of the entire book) does not include the right to a mass download, neither manually nor with technical aids such as crawlers (spider, robot).
  • The transfer of electronic full texts to third parties is strictly prohibited. The texts may only be used for own scientific purposes.
  • Should unusually high download numbers suggesting misuse be repeated, the publisher will block access at least temporarily, which will affect all users. The publisher shall keep an eye on the usage figures at all times.
