UTB teaching and study literature

In the current situation, e-books are becoming increasingly important.

The library has therefore re-licensed the e-books from UTB. UTB provides books from various shareholder publishers in a wide range of topics. From agricultural science to technology and economy, everything is included.

External access has to be done here via the VPN Forticlient. Instructions for installation and configuration can be found on the website of the computer centre. Unfortunately it is not possible to use the VPN web portal.

Unfortunately it is not possible to use the VPN web portal. Please switch off IPv6, otherwise there may be problems with the full text display.

Please also note that the download of e-books works chapter by chapter.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the library team at any time!

As members of the university, please use above all our electronic services, which can be recognised by the "full text" button in the OPAC and are listed on our website under Search and Find/Databases.

For access from outside, please use the VPN possibilities which are available to every student.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Proceedings for ordered library closure - how to get the books you need

Due to a letter from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Art dated 13.03.2020, we were instructed to close our reading rooms in Amberg and Weiden as of 14.03.2020. (see OTH message here)

Please make particular use of our electronic offers, which can be recognised in the OPAC by the "full text" button and are listed on our website under Search and Find/Database. For access from outside the university, please use the VPN facilities.

n order to enable you to order and borrow absolutely necessary books, the following procedure will apply from Tuesday, 17.03:

The lending areas in Amberg and Weiden may be entered individually (max. 1 person at a time) during the shortened opening hours (see below). This is done by accessing the 24-hour library.
Please also make sure that there is sufficient distance to the library staff behind the lending desk!

If you do not have 24-hour access, please make an appointment with the library in charge to receive books by e-mail or telephone:

Library Amberg: bibam@oth-aw.de, phone 09621/482-3215

Library Weiden: bibwen@oth-aw.de, phone 0961/382-1203

Outside the shortened opening hours no access will be granted.

Likewise, access to the reading rooms and thus also to the open access holdings is currently not possible. If you absolutely need a book which is indicated as "borrowable" in the OPAC, please also contact us by mail or phone. We will then make the book available for you.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to order borrowable copies via the OPAC.

For external users* (orange badge): currently no interlibrary loan orders and no loans from the local stock are possible

The following applies to the return of borrowed books:

Library Weiden: please hand in all books via the grey book return container in front of the library We empty it several times a day and book your books back.

Library Amberg: Activated members of the university can also use the book return container in the foyer of the library. If you do not have access to it, please contact the library staff by e-mail or telephone. If necessary, an extension or an appointment for returning books should be arranged.

Out of mutual respect, please use the library only if you have to!
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

The locker rental service in Amberg starts!

From Monday, 20.01.2020 you can rent a locker in the Amberg Library.

How? Just get a key at the counter and have it booked there. With the key you open your locker and insert the yellow chip before closing. The key can also be returned at the counter.

For how long? 4 weeks with two extensions (like books)
A reminder fee is due if the loan period is exceeded.

What happens if keys are lost?
Unfortunately, it gets really expensive, because you have to pay at least 50 €. We will only know the current prices in February. So it is better to watch out for them.

Please do not keep any perishable food in it! We cannot accept any liability.

Mass download of e-books at Springer

According to the publisher Springer, there was an unusually high download rate of e-books, particularly on 10 and 11 March, which far exceeded the usual level.

The culprit has been identified and will face consequences.

We expressly draw attention to this fact:

  • The generous use of Springer e-books (download of the entire book) does not include the right to a mass download, neither manually nor with technical aids such as crawlers (spider, robot).
  • The transfer of electronic full texts to third parties is strictly prohibited. The texts may only be used for own scientific purposes.
  • Should unusually high download numbers suggesting misuse be repeated, the publisher will block access at least temporarily, which will affect all users. The publisher shall keep an eye on the usage figures at all times.
