The  Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation) awards annual full scholarships for study visits to Eastern Europe funded by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation. The application deadline is usually March 15.

The scholarship under the "Metropolises in Eastern Europe" program enables study or research stays in combination with language courses and internships. Funding is provided for stays in the countries of Eastern, Central Eastern or Southeastern Europe or the post-Soviet region lasting at least seven months and no longer than four semesters. Master's degree courses are also supported, as are practical semesters and individual research stays. The scholarship is open to students of all subjects except art, design, music and film.

Scholarship holders of the Metropolis Program can receive funds for living expenses, tuition fees, language course as well as travel expenses. Acceptance into the program is concurrent with acceptance into the Study Foundation.
