The economic and working world is constantly changing. That is why OTH Amberg-Weiden combines its business competence with questions of psychology in the master's program in Applied Organizational Psychology. You will not only analyze economic processes, but also learn to recognize the underlying psychological factors. On this basis, you will help international companies, for example, to successfully shape their changes. In this way, you will acquire the skills you need as managers to drive forward personnel and organisational development with foresight, especially in companies operating abroad. You will also create the best prerequisites to accompany such change processes as mentor, coach or consultant. With your expertise, you are not only able to assess complex economic situations in a targeted manner, but you will also be able to assume responsibility for teams and organizations themselves. In view of your professional and social skills, you will also lead responsibly through difficult phases. You will also learn how to use empirical social research to analyze work and consumption-related issues. At the same time, given the teaching languages German and English, you will acquire the communicative competence to lead discussions - also in an international context.
Especially here, in the border region of OTH Amberg-Weiden, there are already numerous groups, but also small and medium-sized market leaders, which are active worldwide. In many other regions, most industrial, IT, trade and service companies have also positioned themselves well when it comes to export, import or cross-border cooperation. Globalization, digitalization and networking are driving change everywhere. In the meantime, most international companies are aware of this: If they want to master these changes successfully, they need expertise in psychological processes - whether in terms of effective structures, management culture or strategies for solving problems.
With the Master's degree in Applied Business Psychology, they prepare for a career in globally active companies. The well-founded scientific, linguistically in-depth and at the same time practice-oriented course of study opens up all opportunities for them: It qualifies them not only as experts in their field, for a management position or as generalists, generalists in personnel management, marketing and sales, but also for successful self-employment. No matter which path they choose: With this Master's degree, they will in future be among those business psychologists who bring with them extraordinary expertise and diverse practical experience - and who have internalized the need to act responsibly in the business and social environment.

Application period for the winter semester
Registration for the start of studies in the winter semester is possible from 01 May to 15 July by online application. Registration for the start of studies in the summer semester is possible from 15 November to 15 January by online application.
The selection interviews of applicants for the summer semester will take place from 17th July to 18th July 2023.

The Master's degree in Applied Organizational Psychology requires the student to pass an aptitude test. You can apply for a study place within the application period at the application portal of the OTH-Amberg-Weiden.
In order to be admitted to the Master's programme in Applied Business Psychology, you should meet the following requirements (excerpts from §5 and §6 of the study and examination regulations of the programme submitted for approval):
(1) Admission to the Master's program requires an above-average degree from a relevant Bachelor's program with at least 210 ECTS credits or an equivalent domestic or foreign program, proof of sufficient knowledge of the English language, and a successful assessment of the program specific aptitude according to § 6. The Examination Commission decides on the equivalence of the degrees, taking into account the principles of Art. 63 Para. 1 BayHSchG. If relevant courses of study do not have ECTS points, 30 credit points per full-time semester will be taken as a basis.
(2) Above-average is defined as a degree with an overall grade of "very good" or "good" (at least 2.5) at German universities. If a conversion of the overall grade is necessary due to deviating grading systems, this is done according to the so-called "modified Bavarian formula" in accordance with the general examination regulations of the East Bavarian Technical University of Amberg-Weiden. An applicant with a degree from a foreign university is recommended to submit a letter of recognition of the degree issued by a certified institution (e.g. uni-assist) by the end of the application period. The decision on admission to the course of study is made by the examination board.
(3) In addition to courses of study oriented towards economic psychology and business administration, interdisciplinary courses of study with social science or cultural science business administration elements are considered relevant.
(4) Sufficient knowledge of the English language shall be demonstrated by a language certificate corresponding to level B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This proof can be provided by a valid/current IBT (Internet-Based Test) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of at least 80, IELTS Cambridge Test with 6, the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) with a score of at least 780, or equivalent proof, e.g. through corresponding modules in the final certificate. Proof is not required if the university entrance qualification or the university degree was obtained in English.
(5) Graduates of a Bachelor's programme with less than 210 (but at least 180) ECTS credits have the opportunity to prove missing theoretical competences by successfully completing modules from a basic course of study at the university. The modules to be taken are usually part of the study and examination regulations of the degree programmes "Business Administration", "Trade and Service Management" or "International Business" in the currently valid version or courses offered by the Virtual University of Bavaria (vhb). With regard to failing modules and the possibility of repeating them, the general examination regulations of the East Bavarian Technical University apply. The examination board determines the modules to be taken in detail.
Missing practical competences can be proven by practical work experience which meets the requirements of the practical semester in the courses of studies mentioned in paragraph 3.
(6) Applications for admission to the Master's programme for a course of study beginning in the summer semester must be submitted to the university by 15 January of the year in question, and by 15 June of the year in question for a course of study beginning in the winter semester. The university may extend these deadlines if necessary.
(7) Applicants for the Master's programme who, at the time of the application deadline for the Master's programme, do not yet have an overall examination result, but who can credibly demonstrate a successful first degree by the start of the Master's programme, will be admitted to the programme on condition that they provide the necessary evidence within two semesters of starting the Master's programme. Credibility of the degree is established by submitting a transcript of records, which certifies that the student has achieved all the academic achievements required for successful completion of the course.
(8) Applicants who have neither obtained a first degree nor the university entrance qualification in German must provide proof of sufficient knowledge of German in accordance with § 3, paragraph 3 of the Statutes on the Enrolment Procedure of the East Bavarian Technical University.
(9) In the event of non-admission of applicants, they will be informed of this in writing with a statement of reasons. A renewed application is only possible once and again at the earliest in the following application period. Admission remains valid until a substantial change in the course of study.
The admission requirements can also be found in § 5 of the study and examination regulations of the programme.
In addition to fulfilling the admission requirements, proof of suitability for the specific course of study (see § 6 of the study and examination regulations for the course of studys ) must be provided:
(1) The prerequisite for participation in the aptitude procedure is the timely and complete submission of the required application documents in due form and form.
(2) The aptitude procedure shall be conducted in the form of an admission interview. Applicants who meet the requirements of section 6 and section 8(1) shall be invited to this interview in writing at least two weeks in advance. An official identification document must be brought along to the aptitude procedure.
(3) Invited applicants who cannot take part in the aptitude procedure for reasons for which they are not responsible and for which they can provide evidence (e.g. illness with medical certificate) will be given an alternative date. Invited applicants who are unable to attend the aptitude procedure in person for reasons for which they are responsible will be assessed as "not passed". In this case the aptitude procedure is not passed.
(4) The admission interview will be conducted by two professors or lecturers of the Faculty of Business Administration of the East Bavarian University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden appointed by the examination board, who are teaching in the Master's programme in Applied Business Psychology, as an individual or group interview of 30 minutes per applicant. The subject of the interview and its assessment are set out in Annex 3 of these statutes. The subject matter and evaluation components of the interview are
1. recognition and assessment of economic connections
2. structuring of interdisciplinary problems on the basis of the studies completed
3. the ability to present and discuss the approaches developed
(5) The aptitude procedure is passed if the members appointed by the examination board have positively assessed the applicant's aptitude in the admission interview.
(6) The course of the aptitude procedure shall be recorded in minutes which shall contain the name of the applicant, the date, place and duration of the interview, the names of the examiners and the result or the main contents of the interview in relation to the assessment of the areas of competence (see Annex 3) in a standardised form of assessment by the examiners and the overall assessment of each applicant.
(7) The results of the aptitude procedure shall normally be communicated to the applicant at least one month before the start of the study programme. If an applicant is rejected, he/she shall be informed in writing of the reasons. In the event of a rejection, the application may be made at a further date. A third application is excluded.
As an industrial engineer, it is my job to act as an interface between people with different educational backgrounds, character traits and goals. After ten years of experience in the profession, most recently entrusted with the management of executives, I realized how important people are for the economic success of a company. I therefore decided to pursue a master's degree in applied organizational psychology at the OTH Amberg-Weiden in order to improve the skills I had learned in practice as a manager and to gain sound psychological insight into human behavior in the environment of business enterprises. In addition to the well-balanced and exciting module profile, a decisive reason that led me to this university was the noticeable closeness of the lecturers, staff and the Head of study program and the noticeable flexibility for working professionals. Especially the teaching of the complex psychological content with comprehensible and practical examples made it easier for me, with my engineering background, to fully follow the topics that were new to me. In my job, I feel the benefits of the study program most clearly and manage to reach people even better through the newly learned skills, to connect with each other and to carry out projects efficiently.
I am just as interested in economic interrelationships as in human behaviour and psychological backgrounds. With this course of studies, both fields of interest can be optimally combined and unified. These aspects are becoming increasingly important in practice, as organizations place greater emphasis on listening to their employees and creating a motivating working atmosphere for them. At OTH, I appreciate the fact that lecturers at OTH Amberg-Weiden offer advice and support beyond the course of study. The mix of students from the region, Germany and abroad also brings a certain diversity, which helps you get to know other cultures and broaden your own perspective.
After my studies of business administration, I consciously decided to take a master's degree in business psychology in order to find out more about the human resource and the psychological background and motivations for business decisions. During my studies, the interests of the students were always taken into account in the best possible way, and thus the main focus of my teaching was also set. The lecturers, who were competent in their fields and especially in human nature, as well as the good contacts of the university to companies in the region, for example in project work, which were very important for me personally, rounded off the study experience perfectly for me.
As part of the international cooperation of OTH Amberg-Weiden with partners in Chile, students of the Master's program in Applied Business Psychology traveled to Santiago des Chile, Chile in January 2020 for the Summer School.
The focus was on intercultural and professional exchange on current topics in the field of Business Psychology. The main focus was the work with personality profiles. The Chilean-German student groups defined the appropriate leadership style for each profile and worked out the effects between leadership models and the composition of cooperative teams as well as the development of employees. In reciprocal interviews they practiced in job interviews and performance reviews in English.
