Numbers / Facts

On October 1, 1997, the Industrial Engineering (WI) program started with 45 students and 2 professors. In accordance with the requirements of the regional industry, the focus from the beginning was on engineering sciences such as technology and innovation management, logistics, environmental technology and information processing. With already 235 students, WI was anchored as a separate department in the university in 2003. With the support of the Department of Business Administration, the second degree program - Management & European Languages - now named International Technology Management (TM) - was established at WI in 2004. After the conversion of diploma to bachelor's and master's degree programs, the first master's degree program was established at the WI Department in 2008: Intercultural Business and Technology Management (IM). In 2010, with 575 students at WI, the bachelor's program in Medical Engineering was added, crowned since 2013 by a laboratory landscape and equipment on more than 1100 square meters in the Weiden Technology Campus, which is unique among all universities. Since 2014, the master's program in medical technology has also been established. The Physician Assistance (PA) and Digital Healthcare Management (DHM) degree programmes have supplemented the Faculty's range of courses since the winter semester 2019/2020. New in the portfolio since the summer semester 2021 are the Master's degree programme Industrial Engineering - Digital Engineering & Management and since the winter semester 2021/2022 the Bachelor's degree programmes Digital Technology and Management and Physician Assistance - Physician Assistance for Healthcare Professions (PAG).

Today, the approximately 700 students of the department are supervised by 18 professors and 3 teachers for special tasks. Our 50 employees ensure the smooth running of teaching and all department matters. In addition, the department is supplied by about over 40 lecturers from practice, who pass on their experience and know-how from business and industry to the students.

The modern laboratories with their extensive equipment offer excellent conditions for teaching and studying as well as for application-oriented research activities.
