Im Folgenden finden Sie einen Auszug aus dem Interview mit Frau Dr. Mojdeh Golagha von Infineon, das auf Englisch geführt wurde. Das ganze Interview finden Sie auf unserer IKKI-Website.
How is Infineon using AI – aren’t they mainly a hardware company?
Yes, Infineon is primarily a semiconductor company with a strong focus on hardware. However, we've realized that in order to better serve our customers' needs, we need to take a product-to-system approach. This means that we develop software on top of our hardware to address specific applications for our customers. A significant part of this approach is using AI to ensure we can use the hardware we have to deliver a system that solves our customers' problems and meets their needs.
What are some examples of these use cases the customers have?
At Infineon, we have developed AI-powered solutions for smart homes, including voice-activated assistants or home security systems. We are working on different applications, for example, one of the projects I am working on is in collaboration with Radar business line. They have defined different applications for smart home and health monitoring, like monitoring vital signs or detecting human presence in the room and so on. We have also solutions developed for industrial automation and autonomous driving. [...]
What are the benefits for the customers of adding AI-based software to your hardware?
The idea is that, in the past years we were only selling the hardware and other companies came up with the application software. And we have a really wide, nearly endless range of possible applications from all the different domains on how we can help the customers, because we supply so many customers.
A specific example might be sensors that monitor the health of elderly people and give warnings if there is a health problem – this is something we just cannot do with traditional software solutions, we need AI to learn from the data we collect. [...]
