Early Warning System students@risk 2.0
To sustainably improve academic success and prevent students from dropping out, it is crucial to identify at the earliest possible stage those students who may require additional support and to offer them targeted, suitable measures. For this reason, OTH Amberg-Weiden has developed the “Early Warning System – students@risk”, which has been successfully in operation since the winter semester of 2021/22.
This innovative system analyses a range of indicators that could point to difficulties in the course of study, such as examination results or the number of ECTS credits earned. By identifying potentially at-risk students at an early stage, the university can provide tailored advisory and support services to help them overcome their challenges and achieve their academic goals. Of particular note is that the system also benefits students who would not otherwise seek help themselves or who are unsure where to turn, by proactively reaching out to them and offering targeted assistance.
Through this approach, OTH Amberg-Weiden ensures that all students receive the best possible support and that their chances of successfully completing their degree are maximised. The “Early Warning System – students@risk” thus represents a key element in the university’s strategy to continuously enhance study conditions and foster the long-term success of its students.

Have you just started your studies, but the transition from school to university is proving more difficult than you expected? Or have you been studying for several semesters and things are generally going well, yet you’ve now failed the same exam twice? If so, you might hear from us!
There’s absolutely no need to panic! Our intention is not to rub salt in the wound, but simply to offer our help and support. Together, we can consider how your studies could progress in the coming semesters and how things might go more smoothly for you in the future. For this reason, each semester we invite all students in bachelor’s programmes—for example, those who have earned significantly fewer ECTS credits than expected for their semester or whose grade point average is well below the norm—to a personal advisory meeting with us.
So if you receive an email or letter from us during the first few weeks of the semester, we encourage you to take up this offer promptly! Our experience shows that difficulties often worsen from one semester to the next. Therefore, it definitely makes sense to respond to the first contact straight away and come in for a consultation at the Student Development Center.
