DAAD programme "Eastern Partnerships"

Partnerships with universities in Central and Eastern Europe, South-Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) programme “Eastern Partnerships” aims to consolidate existing partnerships and initiate new long-term partnerships between German universities and universities in the target region, as well as to achieve broad-based cooperation in teaching and research. In this way, the programme contributes to the internationalisation of German and foreign universities.

The OTH AW Competence Centre Bavaria – Central and Eastern Europe (KOMO) has been implementing projects in this programme since 2022. It works closely with Prof. Dr. Matthias Lederer from the Weiden Business School.

UAre@OTHAW - Scholarship Program for Refugees from Ukraine

The UAre@OTHAW project was realised at OTH Amberg-Weiden as part of the DAAD funding programme "Future Ukraine – Scholarship Programme for Refugees from Ukraine at German Universities".

The project was coordinated by KOMO (OTH AW Competence Centre Bavaria – Central and Eastern Europe). During the project period from January 2023 to July 2025, a total of five Master's students and ten Bachelor's students received a monthly scholarship. This financial support enabled the recipients to continue their studies despite the difficult circumstances resulting from the Russian war of aggression.

The scholarship holders also benefited from individual support, language courses, coaching and access to new networks. This enabled them not only to expand their technical and language skills, but also to develop new perspectives for their personal and professional future.

OTH Amberg-Weiden remains committed to cooperation with Ukrainian universities and supports students and teachers in other projects, such as the DAAD funded project Tandem UA-DE.

The scholarship holders have embarked on impressive paths and given a lot back to the university through their commitment. Some of them have organised several information events for prospective students from Ukraine and continue to support them in their goal of studying in Germany.
