Forschungsgebiet(e):
Im Labor der Bioverfahrenstechnik werden interdisziplinär innovative Bioreaktorsysteme entwickelt und erforscht. Dabei wird untersucht, wie Licht, Magnetfelder und andere Umweltfaktoren das Wachstum, den Stoffwechsel und die Anpassungsfähigkeit lebender Systeme beeinflussen. Mithilfe moderner molekularbiologischer und gentechnischer Methoden werden Stoffwechselwege analysiert, um biologische Prozesse besser zu verstehen und für nachhaltige Anwendungen nutzbar zu machen.
Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Upcycling von Reststoffströmen sowie auf der Umwandlung von Sonnenlicht, CO₂ und Nährstoffen in wertvolle Primärbiomasse. Ziel ist es, biologische Produktionssysteme zu entwickeln, die Ressourcen schonen, Stoffkreisläufe schließen und einen Beitrag zu Klimaschutz und nachhaltigem Wirtschaften leisten. Die Forschung erfolgt in enger Zusammenarbeit mit regionalen und internationalen Partnern und umfasst sowohl anwendungsorientierte Forschungs- und Entwicklungsprojekte mit industriellen Partnern als auch öffentlich geförderte Forschungsprojekte ohne direkte industrielle Beteiligung.
Mit seinen Kulturen aus Mikroorganismen, Algen, Basidiomyceten und anderen lebenden Systemen ist das Bioverfahrenstechnik-Labor zugleich vermutlich das lebendigste Labor der OTH Amberg-Weiden – ein Ort, an dem täglich Milliarden von Zellen wachsen, sich anpassen und die Grundlagen für die Biotechnologie von morgen schaffen.
