"I chose to study Digital Business with a specialisation in E-Commerce & Retail Management because I'm interested in the digital retail world and the various online marketing channels in particular. I find the strong practical focus at the university particularly helpful: in our specialisation, we work in small groups on practical projects and apply what we have learned directly. The project work requires initiative and good time management, but at the same time offers valuable insights into business practice. If you want to help shape the digital future of companies, this is definitely the right place for you."

Lisa Duschner - Student specialising in E-commerce & Retail Management

"I chose the Bachelor's degree course in Digital Business because I thought its focus on innovation and digitalisation was very relevant for the future. I particularly like the projects with companies on the programme, as you can network with company representatives and make suggestions for improvement. This practical orientation taught me how structured project work and stakeholder management work and how to deal with stressful situations rationally. I would recommend prospective students to familiarise themselves with the specialisation content and performance assessments during their undergraduate studies. The consultation hours with the respective lecturers are very useful for this."

Nico Prehsl - Student specialising in Innovation & Process Management

"I particularly liked the close contact with the professors and the personal support - as well as the many projects with practice partners. Here you could really apply the theory and develop a feel for the direction in which you want to develop. Coordinating several group projects in parallel was challenging, but we were able to turn to our professors at any time and always found solutions together. Personally, I learnt to be more daring and open to new things. If you want to put theory into practice, this is the right place for you!"

Digital Business Labs

Digital Business Lab - Vom Sensor zum Geschäftsmodell

Experience practice - understand processes - use data intelligently

The practical application of digital business models plays a central role in the Digital Business degree programme. In the specially equipped Digital Business Lab at OTH Amberg-Weiden, real business processes are simulated on a small scale - so-called ‘use cases’ from the business world, which enable students to actively experience and analyse the interplay between technology, computer science and business administration.

One particular example is the coffee production demonstration process currently being developed: a complete, digitally monitored production process is being set up from the bean to the finished beverage. Sensors continuously record relevant process data at various stations - such as temperature, fill levels or throughput times.

This data is not only used for visualisation, but is also analysed, interpreted and processed for economic decisions as part of the course. The aim is to sensitise students to the intelligent use of data in operational processes - and to show them in a practical way how modern digital value creation works.

The lab is currently being expanded - and is constantly growing with new components, stations and application scenarios. It thus offers a lively learning and experimental space for interdisciplinary work at the interface of business and technology.

Practical reference

You will not only gain valuable practical insights in the lecture theatre - but directly in real projects. For example, in the development of digital solutions for real challenges faced by companies. In close cooperation with practice partners, you will work in a team to develop software solutions, concepts or business models that are actually needed.

A real highlight: the international project week ‘Creative Software Engineering’ at OTH Amberg-Weiden. Together with students and universities from four countries and several companies, you will develop creative, practical solutions - for example for Infineon, REHAU or start-ups from the digital sector. You will use modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, low-code platforms and Azure DevOps. You will be supported by mentors from international partner universities, who will contribute their expertise from various specialist areas.

Of course, you will also gain valuable work experience during the compulsory internship semester, which is scheduled for the sixth semester. You will familiarise yourself with company processes, apply your knowledge in a targeted manner and build up important contacts for your career. The university will support you throughout - from the selection of the internship to the supervision in the company.

Study Digital Business internationally

Studying is the ideal time to gain experience for your professional career, but also for your personal development. That's why OTH Amberg-Weiden supports you in building international competences. For example, you can study abroad for a semester at one of our numerous partner universities or complete your internship semester in an international or foreign company. The International Office team will help you to find and organise the best opportunities.
