Summer and Winter Schools

In February 2025, students from OTH Amberg-Weiden travelled to the University of Prishtina in Kosovo for the first time for the international Winter School on Leadership. Bachelor's and Master's students from a total of eight different degree programmes at both universities took part - including Applied Business Psychology and International Management & Sustainability.
The academic week focussed on topics such as personality development, leadership skills and intercultural communication. The participants analysed personality profiles, reflected with the JoHari window, simulated team and leadership roles and developed creative approaches to situational leadership using the LEGO® Serious Play® method.
Another highlight: the exchange about the Kosovan education system and the cultural diversity that is practised. A lively, interdisciplinary dialogue was created with students from seven nations - led by lecturers from both universities.
The Winter School was not only a professional success, but also the start of an intensive partnership with the University of Prishtina - with a view to future joint projects and exchange formats.

As part of the international collaboration with Istanbul University, Master's students from the Applied Business Psychology and International Management & Sustainability degree programmes travelled to the Turkish metropolis for a summer school in July 2022.
The aim of the one-week stay was to develop intercultural skills and exchange ideas on current topics in business psychology in an international context. In interactive mini-lectures and workshops, the participants explored psychological issues relating to leadership, collaboration and cultural differences.
Away from the seminar room, the accompanying cultural programme offered numerous impressions: Visiting the Camlica Mosque and the Hagia Sophia, having dinner together and talking to fellow Turkish students, the students experienced the country, people and way of life at first hand.

As part of OTH Amberg-Weiden's international cooperation with partners in Chile, students on the Master's degree programme in Applied Business Psychology travelled to Santiago des Chile in January 2020 as part of the Summer School.
The focus was on intercultural and professional exchange on current topics in the field of business psychology. The specialist focus was on working with personality profiles. The Chilean-German student groups determined the appropriate leadership style for each profile and worked out the effects between leadership models and the composition of co-operative teams as well as the development of employees. In reciprocal interviews, they practised job interviews and staff appraisals in English.

"As an industrial engineer, it is my job to act as an interface between people with different educational backgrounds, characters and objectives. After ten years of professional experience, most recently managing executives, I realised how important people are for the economic success of a company. I therefore decided to study for a Master's degree in Applied Business Psychology at the OTH Amberg-Weiden in order to improve my practical management skills and gain a sound psychological insight into human behaviour in the business environment. In addition to the well-balanced and exciting module profile, a decisive reason that led me to this university was the noticeable closeness of the lecturers, staff and programme management and the noticeable flexibility for working people. In particular, the teaching of the complex psychological content with understandable and practical examples made it easier for me, with my engineering background, to fully follow the topics that were new to me. I feel the benefits of the degree programme most clearly in my job and am able to reach people even better, connect with each other and carry out projects efficiently thanks to the new skills I have learnt."

"I'm just as interested in economic relationships as I am in human behaviour and psychological backgrounds. This degree programme is the perfect way to unite and combine both areas of interest. These aspects are becoming increasingly important in practice, as organisations are placing more emphasis on responding to their employees and creating a motivating working atmosphere for them. At OTH Amberg-Weiden, I appreciate not only the degree programme but also the fact that lecturers are always on hand to offer help and advice. The mix of students from the region, Germany and abroad also brings a certain diversity that allows you to get to know other cultures and broaden your own perspective."

"After studying business administration, I made a conscious decision to do a Master's degree in business psychology in order to find out more about people as a resource and the psychological background and motivations behind business decisions. During the degree programme, the students' interests were always taken into account in the best possible way, which is how the focus of the teaching was determined. The professionally and especially personally competent lecturers, as well as the university's good contacts with companies in the region, for example for project work, which were very important to me personally, rounded off the study experience perfectly for me."
Practical reference

In the Master's degree programme in Applied Business Psychology, theory is brought to life immediately - through practice-oriented research projects, real company collaborations and innovative learning formats.
One particular highlight is the MindCanvas project, which was launched at the Institute of Psychology & Behavioural Science (IPBS) at OTH Amberg-Weiden. As part of the initiative, which is funded by the Innovation in Higher Education Foundation, students are developing innovative business simulations in international teams. The focus is on VR and AR-supported formats from the field of human resource management - from role-playing games to interactive board games. The goal: a practical, immersive learning environment that makes psychological content tangible and opens up new ways of learning.
These projects not only promote your professional depth, but also strengthen your teamwork and communication skills in an international context. This prepares you optimally for complex tasks in business, consulting or research - with expertise that you can apply directly.
