STACK network for the dissemination of digital tasks in business and STEM teaching

Building on the existing STACK Net, the project aims to contribute to (1) better networking the German STACK community through a coordination and QM office, so that (2) there is a continuous flow of information about (inter)national activities, which will be realised through (3) the first German STACK newsletter and a homepage, which also (4) forms a contact point for interested parties for the introduction of STACK at their own university, the procurement of STACK tasks for their own teaching, the exchange between STACK users of all subjects and (5) includes a QM documentation of existing tasks.


STACK and GeoGebra - Interactive teaching and digital tasks with visualisation

In the project, digital tasks with mathematic reference are created with the help of the plug-in "STACK", which have a focus on visualisation. This promotes the students' understanding and advances digitalisation.

In the project, flexible (self-)learning modules for adaptive digital teaching based on STACK will be developed and implemented for mathematics courses in the introductory phase of studies. Special emphasis is placed on adaptive task control, gamification and visualisation (dynamic geometry based on JSXGraph) as well as a complex feedback concept. With a holistic view of teaching and learning, the project addresses current challenges at German universities such as the increasing heterogeneity of students and the high dropout rate in engineering.


Interactive Digital Assessment in Mathematics (IDIAM)

The project aims to develop a) digital tools for assessing competences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), in particular mathematical sciences and b) digital tasks in several specific mathematical subjects at the partner institutions. FAU is responsible for the development of tasks for multidimensional analysis based on visualisation using JSXGraph with the connection to STACK.

The project pursues the following goals: (1) Students are to be offered a time- and location-independent opportunity to train the conversion of physical units as often as they wish. (2) To provide teachers with the opportunity to check their students' conversion of physical units through e-assessments. (3) Teachers of advanced modules should be able to ask students to repeat the units on their own if they recognise weaknesses in the calculation of units. (4) The concept of digital exercises should be transferred from engineering mathematics to mechanics in a way that is recognisable to students and thus contribute to a methodological alignment of the two lectures; within this framework, students should in particular be given the opportunity to practise mechanics exercises as often as they like, independent of time and place, which is currently being finalised for engineering mathematics by the Smart Training II project. (5) The handling of basic geometric bodies should be able to be practised as often as desired and the necessary (software) technical requirements (interlinking of STACK and GeoGebra) should be investigated at the HRW.

Introduction to Engineering Mathematics

A compact online course on engineering mathematics was developed, covering essential and elementary concepts from linear algebra and analysis. The STACK-based exercise units are a central component of the course. The chapter on integration was developed under the leadership of FAU.
