Course of studies

Upon successful completion you will be awarded the academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.). This qualifies you to take on complex specialist and management tasks. In addition to the best conditions for your employment in agile and innovative companies, it also offers you the opportunity to work in scientific institutions or a good basis for further scientific qualification in a doctoral process.  

The standard period of study is three semesters including the master thesis. The course of study is modularly structured and equipped with a credit point system. The teaching contents of a module are coordinated thematically and chronologically with regard to the achievement of a partial qualification. Modules are provided with credit points and are concluded with an examination. The course of study comprises a total of 90 credit points (ECTS points), whereby a module usually comprises 5 credit points.  For each credit point, a workload of 30 hours is assumed for the students. 

Content

Study structure

The first two semesters of your Master's programme in Logistics & Digitalization comprise three study programme characterising subject blocks, each of which is covered by 2 to 3 modules:

  • Logistics processes with the modules
    • Planning and optimization of global supply chains 
    • SCM laboratory 
    • Globalization & international value chain management (optional)
  • Technology of logistics with the modules
    • Agile logistics management for production, shipping, retail and service providers
    • Autonomous logistics and IoT 
    • Innovative production systems and processes: Machine Tools (optional)
  • Digitalization of logistics with the modules
    • IT concepts and application programming
    • IT systems for logistics and SCM
    • Industrial communication technology (optional)

These and three other cross-sectional modules, which you can select from a subject catalogue, are taught in the first two theory semesters.

Three further cross-sectional modules can be selected from the subject-specific and general scientific cross-sectional modules.

Subject specific cross-sectional modules (at least 1 module):

  • Big Data, data analytics & knowledge discovery
  • Digitalization and digital society
  • Digital marketing & sales
  • Introduction to the development of mobile applications (apps) (VHB)
  • Global retail logistics (VHB)
  • International transport logistics and distribution systems (VHB)
  • International service management
  • IT security (VHB)
  • IT support in supply management (VHB)
  • Logistics for special use cases (VHB)
  • Management of logistics and SCM projects (VHB)
  • Product innovation management in emerging markets (VHB)

General scientific cross-sectional modules (at least 1 module):

  • Digital leadership and transformation
  • English for logistics and digitalization (VHB)
  • Research design and computer-aided content analysis with RQDA (VHB)
  • Leadership psychology
  • Fundamentals of scientific work in theory and practice (VHB)
  • Management and leadership in organisations (part A + B) (VHB)
  • Sustainability through logistics and information processing (VHB) 
  • Strategic human resources management (VHB)

Master thesis

The programme concludes in the third semester with the master's thesis. After the successful completion of your master's degree in Logistics & Digitalization you will be awarded the academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.).

Course Catalogue and Study Plan

The course catalogue and curriculum contain regulations and information on

  • the learning objectives and contents of the compulsory and optional modules,
  • the learning objectives and contents of the practical semester as well as its form and organisation
  • the type of course in the individual modules, unless conclusively specified in Annex 1,
  • the time allocation of the weekly hours per module and semester,
  • more detailed provisions on course-related credits and attendance certificates, and
  • the elective modules that can be chosen by the students of the course.
