Two models – one goal: practical training with added value

In the dual degree program in Applied Business Informatics (B.Sc.), you can choose between two proven models—both of which perfectly combine theory and practice and provide targeted preparation for your future career.

Combined degree program = Bachelor's degree program + recognized vocational training (e.g., IHK/HWK)

In the dual study program, you start with recognized vocational training at a company—for example, earning a certificate from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) or the Chamber of Crafts (HWK). After about 12 to 14 months, you’ll also begin your studies at OTH Amberg-Weiden. Throughout this time, you’ll continue working at the company and gain valuable practical experience—all the way through to your vocational qualification and beyond.

Here’s what the dual study program offers you:

  • You’ll get to know the company’s processes early on
  • You’ll have a high proportion of practical training throughout your studies
  • Ideal if you want to combine vocational training and academic studies

Degree program with in-depth practical training = Degree program + intensive practical training phases during the program

This track focuses on intensive practical placements—especially during breaks between semesters and during the internship semester. Vocational training is not included, but you will regularly work within a company during your studies and gain targeted professional experience.

Here’s what the program with in-depth practical experience offers you:

  • You combine your studies flexibly with hands-on work
  • You work on real-world projects in your desired field
  • Your transition into the workforce will be particularly seamless

Our goal: To help you get off to a successful start in your studies and career
We’ll help you find the right program for you—whether you already have a company lined up or are still looking. Even if your dream company isn’t yet a partner: A dual degree program is almost always possible!

Why a dual degree program is worth it for you

A dual degree program in Applied Business Informatics (AWI) offers you the perfect combination of theory and practice—and opens up excellent career prospects for your professional start.

Your benefits at a glance:

  • Meaningful and practical studies—you don’t just learn in lectures; you apply your knowledge directly within a company. This makes you the bridge between IT and business.
  • Valuable practical experience from the start – Whether in a combined program or a program with an in-depth practical component: You’ll work on real projects, learn about business processes, and gain important professional experience – long before graduation.
  • Start your career early – Thanks to the intensive practical training, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running after graduation – without a long onboarding period.
  • Excellent chances of being hired – Many dual-track students stay with the company right after graduation – a nearly 100% retention rate speaks for itself.
  • Earn while you study – During your practical training phases, you receive compensation – this provides you with financial security while you study.

In short:
You’ll learn through hands-on experience, build a strong professional network, receive early support—and in the end, you’ll have not only a bachelor’s degree but also real-world professional experience under your belt.

“Thanks to the combination of theory and practice, the dual degree program allowed me to figure out, step by step, what I wanted to do professionally. The support from instructors, the direct insight into the company, and the opportunity to network with colleagues early on were all incredibly helpful. The program provided me with financial security and, in the end, a permanent position. Today, I work as a Process Manager at the same company. My tip: Take advantage of the benefits of a dual degree program: real-world experience, financial security, valuable networks, and the opportunity to find your own path!”
