Dear students,
learning together is often easier – but, especially at the beginning of your degree, it’s not always easy to find the right study partners.
This is where the online Matching Day of the Competence Centre for Fundamental Subjects (CCG) comes in.
Here, you can meet people in breakout rooms that have already been organised, with whom you can form a study group.Matching Day takes place on 26 and 27 October, starting at around 6 pm. You’ll receive further details on the programme once you’ve registered.
Sign up by 16 October 2026 and meet other students who are a good fit for you.
Regarding enrolment in Soft Skill courses and Intercultural Competence courses (only for IB students starting *before* Winter Term 2026/2027)

Dear students,
some of you may still be facing difficulties with registering for Soft Skill courses or Intercultural Competence courses since most of them are already full.
We strongly advise all students who are not coming to Weiden anyway, to join the online vhb modules as Soft Skill courses, so that other students who are on campus can join their lectures.
You are blocking places for students who are eager to take their courses on campus. Please be considerate towards your fellow students.
For all Soft Skill courses from OTH and vhb (virtual university of bavaria) you can refer to the module handbook. Courses from OTH can be found on p.29/30 and vhb courses are listed on p.32.
We also added the course Information Managementfrom OTH as a Soft Skill option which you can now enrol in. The course will be updated in the module handbook soon.
For the Intercultural Competence courses from OTH you can refer to the module handbook on p.29.
We also added the course Intercultural Competences & Management from OTH and you can enrol on Monday, 12.10.2026 at 09:00 am.
The course will be updated in the module handbook soon.
We also offer Advanced courses from vhb as online options for those who can't come to campus every week.
You can find a list of the accepted Advanced courses in the module handbook on p.31.
In the timetable you can find out whether the courses will be held weekly, or as a block course at the weekend, or online (use the search function as these courses appear on separate pages in the timetable).
vhb courses are not listed in the timetable. Information on the procedure as well as exam dates of vhb courses can be found in the respective course description at vhb.
According to the new process of crediting, you have to register for vhb exams at the vhb and at OTH via Primuss.
After you have passed the exam at vhb and received your certificate, you can hand in your certificate and the course will be credited automatically.
Fire Safety Guidelines

Dear students, please note:
Due to the refurbishment work, the automatic fire alarm system throughout Construction Phase 1 (WEBIS/Administration) is expected to remain out of service until the end of December 2026.
There is no automatic notification of the fire brigade; instead, there is only a provisional fire monitoring system using smoke alarms and local alarms in the corridors.
In the event of an alarm, you must leave the building immediately (see the attached revised fire safety regulations) and contact the fire brigade on the emergency number 112.
It is still not possible to use the lecture rooms and laboratories. This is indicated by notices on the doors

PC-Training mandatory for Finance and Investment Exam!
Dear students,
for IB students in the old study regulations, PC Training course is mandatory and available online in Moodle as a self-study course:

You can work through the materials at your own pace and there are no in-person lectures.
The training consists of three sections: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Each section includes course material, a step-by-step video, and a short quiz at the end.

Handling of VHB courses from the winter semester 26/27 onwards
Dear students,
Until now, credits from VHB courses have generally been dealt with via the recognition process. From this semester onwards, the following distinction applies: Please first check the module handbook applicable to you. If the VHB course you wish to take or have already completed is listed by name there, please send the certificate directly to the relevant programme director upon receipt – usually at the end of the examination period.
1. The VHB course is listed by name in the module handbook
Examples of this include:
• ‘Data Collection Methods in the Social and Behavioural Sciences’ on the AWP degree programme
• ‘Fundamentals of Strategic Management’ on the IBD degree programme To ensure that your credit is recorded correctly, you must register for the relevant examination at the OTH during the regular examination registration period. In addition, you must register for the course or examination with the VHB.
2. Exam registration
Please check the exam venue in good time: depending on the course, the exam may take place at a partner university or on-campus at OTH. If you already hold a certificate for a VHB course that is listed by name in your module handbook, please also register for the corresponding exam this semester and submit the certificate to your programme director.
3. Transitional arrangements for certificates already obtained
This is only necessary if the credit has not yet been recognised and recorded via the previous procedure. If the desired VHB course is not listed by name in the module handbook, please check with the relevant programme director at the start of the semester to see whether the course can be accepted.
4. All other VHB courses
Until further notice, these credits must be submitted via the standard recognition process at the Examinations Office. A VHB course that is not listed by name in the module handbook but has already been passed must also be applied for via the online form in Primuss. Should this procedure change in future, we will inform you via this channel.

System migration at the library successfully completed: new OPAC and more options for loans

On August 25th, following months of preparation in collaboration with the Verbundzentrale of the Bavarian Library Network, FOLIO—our new library management system—went live.
FOLIO stands for “The future of libraries is open,” and that holds true in every respect.
The system is completely open source; all data is stored on servers at the Leibniz Computing Center and not, for example, in the cloud of an international provider. This ensures that we retain control over all catalog, circulation, and user data at all times.
And what new features does FOLIO offer you, our users?
First and foremost, a new, more modern OPAC: https://katalog.oth-aw.de/
The OPAC login process is also changing: University members (i.e., students and staff) can now log in using their university ID and the corresponding password.
Longer loan periods—automatic renewals are now available: In addition to the standard 4-week loan period, borrowed books are automatically renewed 5 times (for students) or 4 times (for external users), each time for an additional four weeks.
If there are no holds on the item, students can keep borrowed books for up to 6 months, and external users for up to 5 months.OTH AW staff now have a loan period of 3 years, with two automatic renewals.
If there are no holds, staff members can keep borrowed books for up to 9 years.Change to the interlibrary loan service for articles: With the switch to FOLIO, the direct download link for users—which was previously included in the email notification—is no longer available.
Downloads are now available via the interlibrary loan account, which can be accessed after logging into OPAC via Account -> Orders -> Interlibrary Loan Orders (https://katalog.oth-aw.de/vufind/Holds/List). (This is also stated in the confirmation email that you will continue to receive upon successful completion of your order.)
As with any system change, we naturally still have a few areas that need work, but we’re already working hard to address them.
Currently, the self-service checkout system is not yet available. If you’d like to borrow books, please come to the circulation desk for the time being.
The interlibrary loan service for books is also still in development; we hope to be able to offer this service again in early to mid-September. However, the interlibrary loan service for articles should already be up and running again.Finally, a small request: most of the new developments and changes are falling on us as the library team, since some of the workflows are now completely different in the new system. So please be patient if things move a bit more slowly here over the next few weeks while we’re still getting familiar with the system.
We’re very much looking forward to offering you an even better, more efficient, and more appealing service with FOLIO in the future!
Course registration in Moodle

You will be able to enrol in your Moodle courses from Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at 7.00 am.
Please only enrol in courses that you will actually be able to take in the coming semester, so that you don't take places away from other students.First-year students can still enrol in Moodle courses even after lectures have started.
Further information will be provided at the first-year welcome event on 1 October 2026 and via email in advance.If you are unable to enrol in a course that you are required to take, please contact the relevant lecturers directly.
External beginners' courses in Weiden at VHS (A1.1, A1.2 and A2.1) starting mid September 2026

For those of you, who have only little knowledge of German, we have some good news!
Together with the VHS and our language centre, we are once more able to offer three levels of beginners' German courses at the vhs in Weiden.
Please note that this will be the last time that this will be tha last time that an A1.1 course will be offered and that this cooperation courses will eventually be running out.It only makes sense chosing one of these three courses, i.e. the one that corresponds to your level of German.
And should you already be advanced in your knowledge of German, then of course the free German courses of our language centre would be suitable for you.
The vhs offers A1.1, A1.2 and A2.1
The OTH language centre offers A2.2 (with the possibility of completing your immatriculartion requirement of A2), B1.1, B1.2 ..... up until C1.1The vhs courses are a special offer for IB students, who do not have A2 knowledge of German and are hence not able to complete their immatriculation with proof of A2 yet.
There is only a limited number of places. So first come, first served.
