Dokumentarfilms „Running Towards New Horizons“ Dear students, dear colleagues,
Imagine running around 170 kilometres non-stop. Not on the road, but along mountain trails, through forests and over mountain passes, with an elevation gain of around 10,000 metres, through the night and without a break. That is trail running in its most extreme form. And that is precisely what the UTMB around Mont Blanc is – the most famous race in this sport.
In 2024, a runner from Ecuador finished third there, becoming the first Latin American ever to reach the podium. His name is Joaquín López. Most of you have probably never heard of him.
For my Master’s thesis, I followed him for a year to find out how someone gets that far. The answer surprised me: there was no miracle and no talent that fell from the sky. There was simply a person who started at some point and never stopped. “Running Towards New Horizons” is a film for anyone who sometimes doubts themselves. Filmed in Ecuador and Spain, produced in Japan and Germany.

New semester, new library system, new OPAC!

You may have already noticed: the OTH Library recently implemented a new management system and a new OPAC/library catalog.
This also means a few changes for you, our users:
students will receive all emails from the library exclusively at their OTH email address. Please check your inbox regularly!
With the new, more modern OPAC (https://katalog.oth-aw.de), the login process has also changed: students must now log in using their university ID and the corresponding password.
Longer loan periods—automatic renewals are now available: in addition to the standard 4-week loan period, borrowed books are automatically renewed 5 times, each time for four weeks.
If there are no holds on the items, students can therefore keep borrowed books for up to 6 months.
Please check your OPAC account or OTH email inbox regularly: when the loan period expires and you need to return the books, you’ll receive a reminder email!
(You can no longer renew items yourself via the OPAC. If you’re eligible for a renewal, it will happen automatically.)- Change to the interlibrary loan service for copies: With the system change, the direct download link that was previously included in the email notification is no longer available.
You can now download the materials via your interlibrary loan account, which you can access after logging into OPAC by going to Account -> Orders -> Interlibrary Loan Orders (https://katalog.oth-aw.de/vufind/Holds/List).

learning together is often easier – but, especially at the beginning of your degree, it’s not always easy to find the right study partners.
This is where the online Matching Day of the Competence Centre for Fundamental Subjects (CCG) comes in.
Here, you can meet people in breakout rooms that have already been organised, with whom you can form a study group.Matching Day takes place on 26 and 27 October, starting at around 6 pm. You’ll receive further details on the programme once you’ve registered.
Sign up by 16 October 2026 and meet other students who are a good fit for you.

aufgrund der größeren Teilnehmerzahl, wird nun die Übung für "Einführung in die Informatik" / "Creative Coding" in zwei Gruppen eingeteilt:- Die Studierenden der Medientechnik aus dem ersten Semester bleiben in meiner Gruppe am Montag um 8:00 Uhr.

Studierende, die sich übers Exkursionsportal bis 10.11.2026 anmelden, erhalten vor Ort 10 € Fartkostenerstattung (Fahrgemeinschaften werden in Eigenorganisation empfohlen).

Liebe Teilnehmende des Praxisseminars WiSe 26/27,
am Mittwoch, den 10.3.2027 und am Donnerstag, den 11.3.2027 findet das diesjährige Praxisseminar im Raum 313 oder 301 statt.Die Veranstaltungen beginnen an beiden Tagen jeweils um 9.00 Uhr. Die Veranstaltungen finden in Präsenz statt. Es genügt, wenn Sie nur an dem Tag anwesend sind, an dem Sie Ihren Vortrag halten. Der Vortrag sollte nicht länger als 8 Minuten sein. Der Vortrag kann gerne in Form einer Powerpoint-Präsentation oder mit Hilfe eines pdf gehalten werden. Die Begleitung des Vortrags durch Bild und Ton ist durchaus erwünscht. Es gilt zu bedenken, dass Sie an den beiden Tagen viele Vorträge anhören müssen. Deshalb sollte von den Referenten darauf geachtet werden, die Vorträge möglichst lebendig und ansprechend zu gestalten.
Ich möchte Sie bitten, sich zeitnah im Moodle-Kurs Praxisseminar (PS) anzumelden. Am 31.1.2027 werde ich zwei Listen erstellen, für jeden Veranstaltungstag eine. Diese Listen werde ich am 1.2.2027 an Sie verschicken. Es ist nicht vorgesehen, dass Sie sich einen Tag aussuchen können. Auch Sondertermine wird es nicht geben!
Falls Sie keine Zeit haben sollten für das Praxisseminar, haben Sie im darauffolgenden Jahr erneut Gelegenheit, das Praxisseminar zu besuchen.
