In two weeks, OTH Amberg-Weiden will host the highlight of the year in the fields of startup, innovation, and entrepreneurship: Inspiration & Startup Night. This time, the event will feature three inspiring keynote speeches by startups from Nuremberg, London, Weiden, and Delaware (USA).

Following a brief introduction, the Inspiration & Startup Night will kick off with three keynote speeches (in German):

- Alex Netsch (Member of Technical Staff at Balance AI): “Claude vs. Startups: How to Die, Survive, and Win”

Dokumentarfilms „Running Towards New Horizons“ Dear students, dear colleagues,
Imagine running around 170 kilometres non-stop. Not on the road, but along mountain trails, through forests and over mountain passes, with an elevation gain of around 10,000 metres, through the night and without a break. That is trail running in its most extreme form. And that is precisely what the UTMB around Mont Blanc is – the most famous race in this sport.
In 2024, a runner from Ecuador finished third there, becoming the first Latin American ever to reach the podium. His name is Joaquín López. Most of you have probably never heard of him.
For my Master’s thesis, I followed him for a year to find out how someone gets that far. The answer surprised me: there was no miracle and no talent that fell from the sky. There was simply a person who started at some point and never stopped. “Running Towards New Horizons” is a film for anyone who sometimes doubts themselves. Filmed in Ecuador and Spain, produced in Japan and Germany.

Beispiel: Sie benötigen im Sommersemester 2027 zwei SWS im Bereich AWPM, dann bitte 1 Stimme abgeben, also ein Modul wählen.
Anbei finden Sie eine Übersicht der zur Wahl stehenden AWPM-Module. Die Beschreibungen befinden sich, sofern nicht beigefügt, in den ergänzenden Modulhandbüchern (Homepage). In diesem Zeitraum sind keine Neuanmeldungen an Systemen möglich, die diesen Anmeldeserver verwenden.

At Startup Night, you can look forward to keynote speeches by Prof. Dr. Stefan Uebelacker (OTH Amberg-Weiden) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Meenken (TH Deggendorf), as well as exciting insights into innovative business models through startup pitches by Cerebra Laboratories AG and in.shave GmbH.
A special highlight of the evening will be the first-round pitches for the GründerinnenAWARD, which offers prize money for first through third place. In 2026, the participating female founders received intensive support in further developing their business ideas through the “GründerinnenRISE” support program at the Kemnath campus.

Online workshop ‘Survival Guide Germany’ for international students for the 2026/2027 winter semester

BARMER is inviting international students to a free online workshop entitled ‘Survival Guide Germany’. The workshop will be conducted in English and is specifically tailored to the needs of first-year international students. The format has been successfully established at numerous colleges and universities in Bavaria for many years and is regularly used as a supplementary information resource as part of preparatory studies. The focus is on providing impartial information on the organisational steps to take before and after arriving in Germany.
During the workshop, which lasts around 60 minutes, information will be provided on, amongst other things::
- the compulsory health insurance for students in Germany,,
- options for exemption from the compulsory insurance,
- differences between statutory and private health insurance,
- important steps to take before arrival,
- organisational requirements after arrival,
- useful points of contact and sources of information to ensure a successful start to your studies.
Naturally, the workshop will also provide information on the procedure for exemption from compulsory health insurance, as well as an impartial overview of the options available between statutory and private health insurance, so that you can make a well-founded and informed decision.
The aim is to provide guidance before arrival, allay any uncertainties and help avoid typical mistakes when preparing to study in Germany. At the same time, the aim is to support universities in enabling their international students to get off to a successful start in Germany.

24h-library in Weiden: How to use the revolving door

As the semester begins, here’s a quick reminder about using the revolving door and the 24-hour library:
All students can gain 24-hour access by attending a one-time library orientation session. The revolving door is also explained during this session.
We continue to offer sessions for this; please feel free to stop by the library or check our website for details.
We strongly ask that you follow our rules:
Use your own student ID card to operate the revolving door!
Go through the revolving door one at a time!
Take your time! The door takes a few seconds to open.
Do not force the revolving door to turn any further!!! It rotates completely automatically.
If it does not turn, your access is likely not active. Please feel free to ask us at the service desk—we’ll be happy to help.
Only if all students follow these rules can we continue to offer the 24-hour library.
If multiple people enter the revolving door at the same time or if people force their way in, the mechanism will break. Please follow the rules so that everyone can use the 24-hour library.
How can you tell if you have access to the revolving door? The card reader will light up blue around the edge.
If you do not have access, the card reader will light up red.
Take advantage of our current training sessions and get access for the rest of your studies!

New semester, new library system, new OPAC!

You may have already noticed: the OTH Library recently implemented a new management system and a new OPAC/library catalog.
This also means a few changes for you, our users:
students will receive all emails from the library exclusively at their OTH email address. Please check your inbox regularly!
With the new, more modern OPAC (https://katalog.oth-aw.de), the login process has also changed: students must now log in using their university ID and the corresponding password.
Longer loan periods—automatic renewals are now available: in addition to the standard 4-week loan period, borrowed books are automatically renewed 5 times, each time for four weeks.
If there are no holds on the items, students can therefore keep borrowed books for up to 6 months.
Please check your OPAC account or OTH email inbox regularly: when the loan period expires and you need to return the books, you’ll receive a reminder email!
(You can no longer renew items yourself via the OPAC. If you’re eligible for a renewal, it will happen automatically.)- Change to the interlibrary loan service for copies: With the system change, the direct download link that was previously included in the email notification is no longer available.
You can now download the materials via your interlibrary loan account, which you can access after logging into OPAC by going to Account -> Orders -> Interlibrary Loan Orders (https://katalog.oth-aw.de/vufind/Holds/List).

learning together is often easier – but, especially at the beginning of your degree, it’s not always easy to find the right study partners.
This is where the online Matching Day of the Competence Centre for Fundamental Subjects (CCG) comes in.
Here, you can meet people in breakout rooms that have already been organised, with whom you can form a study group.Matching Day takes place on 26 and 27 October, starting at around 6 pm. You’ll receive further details on the programme once you’ve registered.
Sign up by 16 October 2026 and meet other students who are a good fit for you.
Regarding enrolment in Soft Skill courses and Intercultural Competence courses (only for IB students starting *before* Winter Term 2026/2027)

Dear students,
some of you may still be facing difficulties with registering for Soft Skill courses or Intercultural Competence courses since most of them are already full.
We strongly advise all students who are not coming to Weiden anyway, to join the online vhb modules as Soft Skill courses, so that other students who are on campus can join their lectures.
You are blocking places for students who are eager to take their courses on campus. Please be considerate towards your fellow students.
For all Soft Skill courses from OTH and vhb (virtual university of bavaria) you can refer to the module handbook. Courses from OTH can be found on p.29/30 and vhb courses are listed on p.32.
We also added the course Information Managementfrom OTH as a Soft Skill option which you can now enrol in. The course will be updated in the module handbook soon.
For the Intercultural Competence courses from OTH you can refer to the module handbook on p.29.
We also added the course Intercultural Competences & Management from OTH and you can enrol on Monday, 12.10.2026 at 09:00 am.

We also offer Advanced courses from vhb as online options for those who can't come to campus every week.
You can find a list of the accepted Advanced courses in the module handbook on p.31.
In the timetable you can find out whether the courses will be held weekly, or as a block course at the weekend, or online (use the search function as these courses appear on separate pages in the timetable).
vhb courses are not listed in the timetable. Information on the procedure as well as exam dates of vhb courses can be found in the respective course description at vhb.
According to the new process of crediting, you have to register for vhb exams at the vhb and at OTH via Primuss.
After you have passed the exam at vhb and received your certificate, you can hand in your certificate and the course will be credited automatically.
Fire Safety Guidelines

Dear students, please note:
Due to the refurbishment work, the automatic fire alarm system throughout Construction Phase 1 (WEBIS/Administration) is expected to remain out of service until the end of December 2026.
There is no automatic notification of the fire brigade; instead, there is only a provisional fire monitoring system using smoke alarms and local alarms in the corridors.
In the event of an alarm, you must leave the building immediately (see the attached revised fire safety regulations) and contact the fire brigade on the emergency number 112.
It is still not possible to use the lecture rooms and laboratories. This is indicated by notices on the doors

In diesem Zeitraum sind keine Neuanmeldungen an Systemen möglich, die diesen Anmeldeserver verwenden. Bereits bestehende Sitzungen können in der Regel weiterhin genutzt werden. Im Einzelfall kann jedoch auch bei bereits angemeldeten Nutzern eine erneute Anmeldung erforderlich sein.

Leistung. Stil. Gemeinschaft. – drei Begriffe, die für das Leitbild unserer Hochschule stehen und nun auch in einem dreiteiligen Kunstwerk sichtbar werden.
Am Dienstag, 6. Oktober 2026, um 12:00 Uhr möchten wir die drei Leinwände der Weidener Künstlerin Katharina Gürtler in unserer Mensa offiziell einweihen.
Nach der Begrüßung und Einordnung des Kunstwerks durch Prof. Dr. Clemens Bulitta, Präsident der OTH Amberg-Weiden, geben die Künstlerin Katharina Gürtler und Dr.Markus Lommer von der Hochschulseelsorge (die das Projekt initiiert und begleitet hat) Einblicke in die Entstehung und die künstlerische Idee. Anschließend wird Prof. Dr. Christiane Hellbach, Vizepräsidentin der OTH Amberg-Weiden, den Gedanken der Mensa als Ort der Begegnung und Gemeinschaft aufgreifen.
